Stride Program Coordinator - South Australia 

  • Part time - .5 FTE
  • Based at Kilburn, South Australia

Whitelion offers Stride wellbeing programs through ‘in school’ and ‘school holiday’ activities and workshops for young people in Indigenous communities across Australia to encourage physical, social and emotional health.

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and adventurous individual to join our Stride team as the Community Programs Coordinator.

Your activities will focus on:

  • Consulting, planning, delivering and evaluating Stride programs in South Australia
  • Building strong relationships with local communities and working towards sustainable outcomes
  • While the position is based in Kilburn, South Australia; extensive regional travel including extended stays will be required.
  • Delivering engaging Stride programs in regional communities alongside passionate presenters such as artists, sports people, leaders, dancers etc

About you:

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with young people
  • Facilitation/presentation experience preferably to primary and secondary schools or youth organisations
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and work collaboratively with project partners
  • Ability to prioritise competing work demands (balancing planning, delivery and evaluation to ensure the smooth operations of multiple programs)
  • Ability to write funding submissions and project reports (to ensure funding continuity and growth along with clearly communicated project outcomes)
  • Experience in program development and evaluation
  • A current drivers licence, police check and DCSI clearance will be required.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Education, Social Work, Youth Work, or related area and/or demonstrated relevant employment experience.

Under the SCHCADS award, this is a level 5.1 role - $33.98 per hour dependent on qualifications and experience plus employer superannuation contributions. Salary packaging is available.

About us:

Melbourne Aboriginal Youth Sport and Recreation (MAYSAR) is a well-regarded and well-recognised community centre in Fitzroy. For over 30 years MAYSAR (formerly known as the Fitzroy Stars Aboriginal Community Youth Club Gymnasium) has offered a community gym, youth services, health promotion, housed physical education and sporting groups, provided community support and a public meeting place.

MAYSAR has been funded to deliver a range of programs to community members with a particular emphasis on support to Aboriginal youth in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. The Program Officer will coordinate a series of Culture, Arts, Recreation, Music and Sports (CARMS) programs to include Men, Women, Youth and Children in community based activities.

The position is auspiced by Whitelion. Whitelion Inc is a non-profit organisation that supports disadvantaged young people. Whitelion’s mission is to build meaningful relationships and create opportunities that enable highly vulnerable and high risk young people to reconnect with society and reach their full potential. Whitelion provides youth focussed, culturally and gender specific programs including mentoring, employment, role modelling and specialist outreach.

Whitelion is a growing non-profit community organisation that supports and empowers young people to reach their potential. Whitelion helps young people find the courage to seek a better future and aims to break the cycle of substance abuse, criminal activity and incarceration by providing at risk young people with opportunities to build relationships within the community.

About you:

The CARMS program will provide mentoring with group activities for Aboriginal community members in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. MAYSAR and Whitelion are seeking an experienced, qualified and motivated worker to join our team.

This varied, hands-on role would suit a person with an understanding of Victoria’s Aboriginal community, Youth Justice and Child Protection systems, experience in supporting volunteers, and a demonstrated commitment to working with disadvantaged young people. Relevant experience/qualifications in Social Work, Youth Work or similar fields is required. This position includes out of hours, occasional weekend work and possible attendance at camps.

Salary range: Up to $59,517.12 dependant on experience (pro-rata) plus 9.5% superannuation and generous salary packaging.

About Whitelion

Whitelion is a non-profit community organisation working with young people who are at risk and disconnected from the community due to abuse and neglect, drug addiction and homelessness. Whitelion opens doors to opportunities, relationships and community for these young people.

Your activities will focus on:

The Youth Crime Prevention Grants program is part of the Victorian Government’s response to youth offending, particularly recidivist offending, tackling the issue through the proven strategy of strengthening the ability of local communities intervening early and diverting young people from criminal behaviour. Whitelion’s role in this program is part of a wider multi-agency approach to deliver the Crime Prevention Program pilot over two years in the LGA Frankston.

  • An opportunity to provide intensive support to young people in the criminal justice system through a resilience based service delivery model
  • Must have extensive experience working with the hardest-to-reach young people (12-25yrs)
  • Able to work with a ‘whole-family approach’ to achieve tangible outcomes
  • Able to work autonomously, make sound judgements and provide sophisticated recommendations and sound advocacy in complex environments.
  • Confident working collaboratively with our partnering agencies.
