Driver education and training for young people in SA -
Apr 10, 2010
Whitelion South Australia is set to launch a driver education program, 'Right Turn', for young Indigenous people, in partnership with Adelaide based Indigenous program Wiltanendi. The Program is made possible by the donation of a vehicle for the use of the young people, who will be matched with experienced volunteers to enable them to obtain their Learners Licence, or who need to build up their log book hours to obtain their Probationary Licence.
Many young people that Whitelion work with do not have the access to family support or a vehicle to enable them to acquire the necessary skills and driving hours necessary to obtain a licence. 'Right Turn' is a valuable follow-up to Whitelion's successful Rare View Program, run last year by Motorvate at the old Virginia Raceway. The aim of 'Right Turn' is to build on young people's driving skills as the Program diversifies and attracts the necessary funding to accommodate young people in Out-of-Home care.
