K.F.C.(Yum) Market 2 Charity Golf Day 2009 in aid of Whitelion
The 7th Annual K.F.C.(Yum) Market 2 Charity Golf Day 2009 was hosted at Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club on Monday 31August . All proceeds from the day were generously donated to the Whitelion Employment Program and the 2009 event raised a sensational $24,500 for the organisation. This brings the total funds raised over the seven year period by K.F.C to $172,000!!!
The day proved a true test of golfing skill and mental and physical toughness as drenching rain was wonderfully complemented by 40 knot winds! Umbrellas were broken, scorecards were ruined and players were thoroughly saturated as the old adage that “your worst day on the golf course is better than your best day at the office” was put in doubt. Nonetheless, most players survived the conditions and some surprisingly good scores were posted on the fantastic Sanctuary Lakes course.
After enduring the storm, the clubhouse was welcome relief for golfers and spirits were revived via hot showers, a great dinner, a few well-deserved liquid refreshments and some good laughs from the evening’s MC, 3AW’s Darren James. There was enormous competition for some fantastic prizes ranging from vintage wine, race members marquee passes, music tickets and autographed sporting memorabilia, where everything was snapped up on the night.
The team at Whitelion is extremely grateful for the wonderful partnership we share with KFC, not only because of their generous support through events such as the Golf Day but also because of the employment opportunities they make available to the large numbers of young people who come through the Whitelion programs. Special thanks to organiser Gary Ellin and Tim Fischer, as well as K.F.C. General Manager Angus Armstrong for a great day and lets hope all the players have dried out in time for next year’s event!
