The Young Lions program is a program that started back in late 2004 the group was formed informally just as a group of young people that where gathered up by Jason Waples a Young guy who has been involved on and off for several yrs since 2000. Jason wanted to help Whitelion’s young people and it was his chance to give something back to whitelion and the community. Jason’s philosophy for the Whitelion Youth Muster ‘05
Philosophy
The Youth Muster is a three day camp inspired by Jason Waples, a courageous young person who for the last five years has benefited from Whitelion Mentoring.
The Youth Muster will be a chance for 12 young people and 12 corporates to experience the outdoors and to learn about each other. They will also be able to share their different experiences in life and discuss the changes they have been through or are going through.
The corporate leaders will encourage the young people by telling their stories and the ups and downs that have led them to where they are today. They will be asked to listen and understand the young people’s journey, to appreciate the road blocks and help them in breaking down the barriers that make them feel left out of society.
The entire initiative is to be managed by the young people themselves with assistance from Whitelion staff and associates, provided only upon request.
Purpose and Goals
The Youth Muster 05’ will hopefully be the first muster of many. It will aim to give young people and corporates the chance to learn about each others lives and to enjoy a weekend away, facing new and exciting challenges.
The Youth Muster will bring people who would not normally associate with each other together. It is hoped that by sharing life experiences, the young people and corporates will help each other learn and grow.
By getting to know each other, hopefully the corporates will become positive mentors for Whitelion.
The Youth Muster is a chance for people to challenge their views and their abilities.
From the Youth Muster ’05 came the Young Lions Program title and a refreshed group of young people wishing to embark on a new and life changing journey to a young lion and to be a young lion is to have been supported by Whitelion in someway and wish to give something back. The young lions program comprises of the following Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Whitelion’s R.O.A.R program and insight now.
