Volunteer – Whitelion Australia
Chatterbox Street Outreach Program
West Melbourne

Whitelion is a non-profit community organisation that supports and empowers young people at risk to reach their full potential. We are currently seeking volunteers to join the Chatterbox Team based at Head Office in west Melbourne.

The Chatterbox Street Outreach Program is a mobile outreach service that provides the necessary support for homeless and street frequenting youth. 

This program utilises a modified bus as a mobile support base and is staffed by an Outreach worker from Whitelion and a team of dedicated volunteers. The bus is stocked with food, clothing, health supplies and other crisis supports.

The program operates up to 5 nights per week from 7:30pm until 12am (or later as required), in and around Melbourne’s CBD.

The Chatterbox Program is managed by the Chatterbox Team Leader with the assistance of an Outreach Worker & volunteers.

Some key requirements for the role are:

  • Effectively engage and relate comfortably to people from a wide spectrum of the community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with community sites
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Willingness to undergo training and engage in regular supervision
  • Able to work evenings from 7:30pm to 12am
  • Commit to a minimum of 2 shifts per month
  • Be able to engage in manual handling tasks such as stacking the Chatterbox Bus

You will also be required to participate in a full day training session, undergo a criminal record check and hold a current Working with Children’s Check.

This is a volunteer position and therefore is unpaid.

Volunteer – Whitelion Australia
Nutritional Outreach Support and Health Program (NOSH)
Derrimut Road – Hoppers Crossing

Whitelion is a non-profit community organisation that supports and empowers young people at risk to reach their full potential. We are currently seeking volunteers to join the NOSH Team based in Derrimut Road – Hoppers Crossing.

The NOSH Program is a mobile outreach service that provides  the necessary support for homeless and street frequenting youth.  NOSH operates up to 4 days per week, including some evenings around identified areas of need in the Wyndham region and surrounding suburbs with the view to expanding the program in the future. It is managed by the NOSH coordinator with the assistance of volunteers.

Some key requirements for the role are:

  • Effectively engage and relate comfortably to people from a wide spectrum of the community.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with community sites
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Willingness to undergo training and engage in regular supervision
  • Commit to one shift per fortnight (4-8 hours) generally during business hours but may include some evening/weekend work in the future
  • Be able to engage in manual handling tasks such as stacking the NOSH van

You will also be required to participate in a full day training session, undergo a criminal record check and hold a current Working with Children’s Check.

This is a volunteer position and therefore is unpaid.

Volunteer – Whitelion Australia
Adelaide Chatterbox Street Outreach Program

 

Whitelion is rolling out the chatterbox program in Adelaide and is looking for volunteers.

This program will use a modified bus as a mobile support base and will be staffed by an outreach worker from Whitelion and a team of volunteers. The bus is stocked with food, clothing, health supplies and other crisis supports.

We are excited to start rolling out this service in Adelaide with our volunteers at the core working together to create an innovative and effective service that young people who are in a form of homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness will feel supported by.

The program will operate 2 nights per week from 7:30pm until 12am (or later as required). The program purpose is to offer young people a friendly non-judgmental person to talk to and an outreach worker who can link them in with necessary services. Whitelion appreciates its volunteers and acknowledges that volunteers really do hold that magic touch to engage with people. As a volunteer with Whitelion you will be provided with great support and training to volunteer within this program.

Some key requirements for the volunteer role are:

  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Effectively engage and relate comfortably to people from a wide spectrum of the community in a non-judgmental way.
  • Willingness to undergo training and engage in regular supervision
  • Able to work evenings from 7:30pm to 12am

You will also be required to undergo a DCSI child related employment screening for volunteers (unfortunately volunteers are required to pay for this screening) and participate in a full day training session (multiple training sessions will be held for volunteers).
