Department for Education and Child Development (DECD)- School Retention Program: Mentoring Services
As a preferred provider of mentoring services for DECD we provide mentoring support to young people living in out of home care and under the Guardianship of the Minister.
The aim of the Whitelion mentoring program is to promote purposeful relationships whereby mentors assist young people living in out of home care to develop a positive sense of self and build useful connections with their community. Carefully selected, trained and supported mentors form one-on-one relationships with young people of the same gender. A trusted and meaningful relationship can reduce personal isolation and contribute to self-esteem, community and family connectedness, hope for a positive future and active engagement in pro-social achievement.
Any Department for Child Protection Social Workers seeking mentoring support for their clients need to organise a referral through the department.
Community Mentoring Services
Mentoring for other young people including young people with a disability, young offenders, FLO students and unemployed young people can also be arranged on a fee-for-service basis.
