Volunteer - Adelaide Chatterbox Street Outreach Program

About the Program

Whitelion is rolling out the chatterbox program in Adelaide and is looking for volunteers.

This program will use a modified bus as a mobile support base and will be staffed by an outreach worker from Whitelion and a team of volunteers. The bus is stocked with food, clothing, health supplies and other crisis supports.

We are excited to start rolling out this service in Adelaide with our volunteers at the core working together to create an innovative and effective service that young people who are in a form of homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness will feel supported by.

The program will operate 2 nights per week from 7:30pm until 12am (or later as required). The program purpose is to offer young people a friendly non-judgmental person to talk to and an outreach worker who can link them in with necessary services. Whitelion appreciates its volunteers and acknowledges that volunteers really do hold that magic touch to engage with people. As a volunteer with Whitelion you will be provided with great support and training to volunteer within this program.

Role Requirments

  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Effectively engage and relate comfortably to people from a wide spectrum of the community in a non-judgmental way.
  • Willingness to undergo training and engage in regular supervision
  • Able to work evenings from 7:30pm to 12am

You will also be required to undergo a DCSI child related employment screening for volunteers (unfortunately volunteers are required to pay for this screening) and participate in a full day training session (multiple training sessions will be held for volunteers).

Whitelion is committed to providing a safe environment for all people, regardless of their age, culture, ability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief and/or sexual identity.
