A Three Peaks Challenge like no one before

A Three Peaks Challenge like no one before
Apr 22, 2020

It was early in 2020 we knew that this year’s Three Peaks Challenge would be like no other. The devastating bushfires that impacted communities right across Australia, including a number of those we travel through during the event, meant the participants and guides had a unique challenge ahead of them. For the first year ever, the guides were set the challenge of finding a replacement mountain in the ACT after Mt Tennant was determined to be unavailable. This year was also different as we made the decision to help support the communities impacted by the bushfires by donating of a portion of the funds raised to a local community organisation in an affected area.

With participants assured the event would go ahead and Mt Majura in ACT selected as the replacement mountain the event preparation continued. Even in the lead up to the challenge we saw the participants preparing themselves on gruelling training walks to ensure they were ready for the 3 mountains in 3 states in 33 hours, that they would be tackling in a matter of weeks.

When it came time for the event the 160 participants, mostly strangers when they started, came together for the joint purpose of supporting young people. As individuals they showed our young people encouragement, kindness and gave them hope. Each participant sacrificed their time to take the challenge and put into perspective the struggle of a disadvantaged young person. In embracing the experience participants went above and beyond in contributing to helping these young people at risk. So far, we have raised more than a whopping $322,000 with donations still open until the 31st of May. To donate click here.

Throughout the challenge the participants walked approximately 45km and 63,000 steps in under 48 hours. What an incredible achievement by all involved. Thank you for your dedication to supporting young people!

As we wrap up this event there are a few people that need to be recognised.

Firstly, thank you to Iress our Major Sponsor and great friends of Whitelion. Without you this event would not have been possible.

Crown Coaches; who donated all their busses, covered all transport costs and the drivers donated their time and entire pay for the 4 days of transporting the participants.

Nick Theodossi Prestige Cars for being our official transport partner and providing the support vehicles for the entire event.

Lastly a massive shout out to the amazing Guides and Support crew who donated their time and energy into making this event as successful as it was. Your efforts did not go unnoticed and we can't thank you enough!

Although this year’s event is one for the history books, it still had the same purpose to raise funds that will help support young people. Donations will remain open until May 31st, so if you would like to donate click here.
