Take a break and listen to our CEO Hang’s personal story of finding her voice and identity in a JOY FM podcast

May 13, 2020

Want a break from COVID-19 news stories? In early March our CEO Hang Vo was invited to speak on JOY FM’s Word for Word program. If you have met Hang or heard her speak you will know her passion for young people and leadership, and you may have heard about her arrival in Australia from Viet Nam as a child. Five minutes of casual chat will show you she is a deeply devoted partner, sister, aunt and daughter. A quick Google search will tell you she is a lifelong student and a current board director of the ground-breaking Victorian Pride Centre.

What Hang has never shared before her JOY FM interview however is her deeply personal journey to understanding and embracing her identity. We ask young people every day to share intimate details of their life so we can help them. We watch them build confidence in who they are, knowing it is critical to achieving positive goals. We call them courageous for their willingness to share and grow. Rarely do we share so much of ourselves in return.

Hang was reluctant to share this widely, believing her story is of interest to only a few. Her team at Whitelion disagree. We think young people, and our supporters, will appreciate that Hang’s leadership is informed by war, poverty, feeling ‘different’, the strength of family and the joy of finding someone to love.

We are sharing this on Hang’s behalf and hope you find it great listening, like we did.
