Deadly Lions (TIDDAS) Coordinator

  • Location: Multiple locations across Melbourne
  • Conditions: Full time, 12 month contract role

Whitelion is looking for a female identifying person to join our Western Metro Area Team as the Deadly Lions (Tiddas) Coordinator. We are looking for someone with experience in working with community, and demonstrable skills to engage and support young First Nations women.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Deadly Lions Program is delivered in partnership with MAYSAR (Melbourne Aboriginal Youth Sports and Recreation). As the Deadly Lions (Tiddas) Coordinator working across north and west metro Melbourne, you will provide individualised support to female-identifying First Nations young people who have been in contact with police or the youth justice system, or for those who are at risk of entering the youth justice system.

Key components of the role are:

  • Providing individualised support (intensive case management and coordination, brief intervention, assertive outreach)
  • Community engagement and capacity building
  • Stakeholder and partnership engagement, particularly to improve access pathways
  • Community-based outreach and co-location

You will be expected to work across multiple locations, including but not limited to Hoppers Crossing, Carlton and Fitzroy. There may be some after hours and weekend work required.

YOUR PROFILE

You will have:

  • Extensive experience in working with community, and demonstrable skills in engaging and supporting young First Nations women
  • Previous experience providing individualised support (intensive case management) in a community service environment, preferably working with at risk and vulnerable young people
  • An understanding of care services and experience dealing with the issues confronting vulnerable young First Nations peoples (including, family violence, substance abuse, child abuse and child safety, mental health and relationships) and their families
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in addition to a high level of interpersonal, liaison and negotiation skills, in order to build rapport and trust with various stakeholders
  • Commitment to the safety, wellbeing and participation of all children and young people
